Why Should You be Connecting Students to SNAP/FNS Food Benefits?
Studies show that college students have high food insecurity rates and 2 out of 3 eligible students are not enrolled in SNAP/FNS. Rates of food insecurity are even higher at community colleges and HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) than they are for the general student population.
The staff supporting college students across North Carolina are in a position to help fight food insecurity and better inform students about the benefits available to them through SNAP/FNS. Here are some suggestions for how to start:
